Nerys Davies

I missed out on my final years in Newtown High School due to my family moving to the Welshpool area just as I got to the fourth year and although I only moved down the road I lost touch with most of my friends.  The reunion for me was fantastic as I renewed contact with former mates and am now enjoying time with them.

I left school at 16 and started work at Boots the Chemist in Welshpool and now, ironically am working in the same branch but as the manager ( I didn’t tell them at the interview that I used to bundle little Saturday kids into big brown boxes and tape them up!) In between I have run my own business, worked as a Training Manager for GUS and Laura Ashley and a Textile Manager at Littlewoods in Shrewsbury.

This photograph was taken at my Mum & Dad's 50th wedding anniversary.

I left Boots because I hated working Saturdays - however I realise now that perhaps I should have stuck it out and trained to be a dispenser (something that I am doing now to ensure I have dispenser cover at all times). Below is a picture of me and my daughter Sarah.

I moved to work for the local newspaper the County Times & Express as a receptionist, then sold advertising over the phone and then became a sales representative. However I didn’t have a good start with the latter as on my first day of having a firms car I managed to roll it on black ice and had to be rescued by a colleague.

On the right is a picture of me and my sister Ann, I'm the one on the right.

This job was really interesting and at times really funny, especially when my sister came to work there too!  During the journalists strike we simply went in to play cards and spend lunchtimes in the local hostelry. Happy times where I made some really good friends!

My only claim to fame is that I have had dinner with the golfer Sandy Lyle. Here is a picture and me and Sandy.

I have also met Julie Christie while she has been shopping in the shop!

I still live in Welshpool and am married to Phil who is a postman and have a 12 year old daughter Sarah who unlike me is tall and blonde.

I have two chocolate Burmese Cats Coco and Poppy (named after Coco Pops) and a West Highland terrrier Bella.
